Swiss Industry since 1876
Our Swiss identity is evident in everything we do – where we work, what we build, and who owns us.
Where we work
- Langnau im Emmental – Jost Ltd. (1876): Cable laying technology, power engineering, trailer construction; opdesign ltd. (2011): Engineering.
- Uetendorf near Thun – Tibram Ltd. (1952): Railway technology and metal processing; training of polymechanics and production mechanics.
- Both locations are in the canton of Bern and can be reached in under an hour – collaboration is feasible in practical terms, not just organizationally.
What we build
- Made in Switzerland throughout the entire process – Development, manufacturing, assembling, commissioning, sales, and service are all handled within the group.
- Suppliers – Whenever possible, we prioritize Swiss companies in our supply chain.
- Traceable – Tibram’s re-stamping authorization: Material traceability from goods receipt to the finished component, relevant for the rail, energy, and transport industries.
Who we belong to
- Swiss family-owned business – largely self-financed, not publicly traded.
- No corporate hierarchy – there are no levels above the holding company; decisions are based on technical logic rather than quarterly financial statements.
- In the long term – our machinery, tools, and facilities are designed for long-term use; we train our own skilled workers.
Swiss Engineering
- Railway Technology – Tibram is a technological leader in current return circuits for rail vehicles; its return current units, manufactured in Uetendorf, are used throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa.
- Infrastructure – Jost machines are used in the expansion of Switzerland’s energy and fiber-optic networks. Where special solutions are needed, opdesign designs and Jost manufactures – such as the cable-pulling device in the NEAT Gotthard Tunnel or the pontoon winches for the demolition of the Rösti Bridge in Solothurn.
What it does
- Regional Roots – We operate at two locations in the Canton of Bern. This is where we create jobs, provide training, and generate economic value – and this is also where we pay our taxes.
- Procurement – local service and repair support; application of Swiss law and jurisdiction in Switzerland; multilingual documentation and support, depending on the target market.
- Compliance – Commercial register extracts, ISO certificates, re-stamping authorization, and plant tours available upon request.
- Low supplier risk – Choosing us as a supplier involves minimal risk. Four factors ensure this: our Swiss location, family ownership, a legal system with a stable political environment, and an established supply chain. While our Swiss location does not eliminate the risk, it does reduce it.
