From concept to mass-produced product
opdesign develops machines, assemblies, and components – from the initial sketch through functional prototypes to the final production-ready product.
We design constructions for clients in the fields of railway engineering, metal processing, and energy and winch technology. The process begins with an initial concept meeting and progresses step by step toward a solution that can be built, tested, and further developed.
In between lies the full spectrum of technical development: layouts, assembly drawings, detailed drawings, strength calculations, simulations, and consulting on project decisions.
opdesign does not handle series manufacturing. However, opdesign oversees the transition to production – whether at Jost, Tibram, or with external partners.
The six dimensions of every construction
Behind the brand name lies a mission: optimize your design.
An opdesign construction is evaluated across six dimensions. And if the solution fails to meet the requirements in any one of these dimensions, the construction is not complete.
Function
Does the construction work in practice, not just on paper?
Technology
Is the technical solution up to date with current construction and operational standards?
Handling and Safety
Are operation, maintenance, and service practical for everyday use? Are handling and operation safe?
Operating conditions
Is the construction suitable for the expected conditions regarding temperature, environmental factors, and stresses at the site of use?
Costs
Are the costs, production, operation, and benefits in a reasonable balance?
Environmental sustainability
Does the construction meet our own expectations for procurement, production, and operations? And what happens after operation?
With production right next door
The opdesign engineers work at the same location as the Jost production facility in Langnau. Whoever designs a solution can check just a few steps away whether it can be built using the existing machines, welding processes, and tolerances. The designer is present during the initial assembly, learns, makes adjustments, and improves the construction.
Metal processing in Uetendorf
Mechanical components are manufactured at Tibram Ltd. in Uetendorf. There, the metal processing division complements the group with extensive turning and milling capabilities.
In this way, knowledge about our own manufacturing processes is incorporated into the construction before it leaves the construction office.
Calculated. Feasible. Scalable.
opdesign doesn’t design for the sake of the drawing, but for practical application. Every solution is thought through to ensure that it works technically, can be manufactured, and will stand the test of time in use. Only then is it complete.
